Expected, not yet lab-tested

We have not had a Epson TM-m30 in our lab. It uses the same ESC/POS command language we validated end-to-end on the Epson TM-T88VI, so we expect it to work. If you run one, tell us and we will move it to tested.

How it works

Cloud coordination, local printing

ReceiptKit sends a few hundred bytes of order data to a bridge on the printer's network. The bridge renders the receipt and writes ESC/POS data straight to the Epson TM-m30, so prints are sub-second even with logos and barcodes.

Drivers

Do you need a driver for the Epson TM-m30?

Only over USB on Windows. Everywhere else the bridge writes to the printer directly, without the operating system print spooler or a vendor driver.

Setup

Connect the Epson TM-m30 in three steps

1.Install the free bridge next to the printer

Download the ReceiptKit bridge for Windows or macOS, or flash the Raspberry Pi image. It runs on any machine on the printer's network, or the one it is plugged into. PC setup · Raspberry Pi setup

2.Connect the Epson TM-m30 over Ethernet or Wi-Fi

Give the printer a network connection on the same subnet as the bridge. The bridge scans for it by its network address and reads the model name from the printer. If it is not found automatically, add it by IP address; the bridge prints over raw TCP on port 9100.

3.Or plug the Epson TM-m30 in over USB

Connect the printer to the bridge machine with a USB cable. It appears in the bridge as soon as it is plugged in. On Windows, install Epson's APD driver first; on a Raspberry Pi or Mac nothing extra is needed.

4.Claim it and print a test receipt

Claim the printer in the bridge so it appears in your ReceiptKit dashboard, then send a test print. The bridge selects the ESC/POS command language and paper width from the model name automatically.

Status and drawer

Live printer status and cash drawer

Live status

Cover, paper, and offline status. Healthy printers answer DLE EOT; an offline Epson TM rejects its whole data channel, so the bridge falls back to SNMP over Ethernet, the blocked-channel signature over Pi USB, and Epson's Status API on Windows with the APD driver.

Cash drawer

Cash drawer kick via ESC p on the RJ11 port. Sends cleanly on tested hardware over USB and Ethernet; physical actuation not yet confirmed in our lab.

Good to know

Epson TM-m30 quirks and notes

  • Connect over Ethernet or USB. The bridge does not print over Bluetooth.
  • On Windows over USB, Epson TM printers ship in vendor-class USB mode and need Epson's APD driver installed. With the APD present the bridge gets full live status through Epson's Status API. No driver is needed on Raspberry Pi or macOS, or over Ethernet on any platform.
  • Many ESC/POS clones impersonate the TM-m30II over USB. If a printer shows up as a TM-m30II but is not one, it still works; the name is cosmetic.
  • Not yet tested in our lab; it shares the ESC/POS dialect and Epson USB behaviour we validated on the TM-T88VI.
FAQ

Common questions

Does ReceiptKit work with the Epson TM-m30?

Yes, it is expected to. The Epson TM-m30 uses the ESC/POS command language that we validated end-to-end on the Epson TM-T88VI. We have not had a Epson TM-m30 in our lab yet, so we label it "expected" rather than "tested".

Do I need to install a driver for the Epson TM-m30?

Only in one case. Over Ethernet on any platform, and over USB on a Raspberry Pi or Mac, no driver is needed. Over USB on Windows the Epson TM-m30 ships in vendor-class USB mode, so you install Epson's APD driver, after which the bridge also gets full live status through Epson's Status API. Alternatively, switch the printer to printer-class USB mode with Epson's TM utility (not yet tested by us).

How do I connect the Epson TM-m30 to ReceiptKit?

Install the free ReceiptKit bridge on a Windows PC, Mac, or Raspberry Pi on the same network as the printer, or plugged into it over USB. Over Ethernet the bridge discovers the Epson TM-m30 automatically by its network address, or you can add it by IP. Over USB it appears as soon as it is plugged in. Claim it in the bridge, and it shows up in your ReceiptKit dashboard ready to print.

Can I print WooCommerce orders on the Epson TM-m30?

Yes. Install the free ReceiptKit for WooCommerce plugin from WordPress.org, connect it to your ReceiptKit account, and add a print rule. New orders and refunds then print automatically on the Epson TM-m30 as receipts, kitchen tickets, or packing slips using templates you design visually. Orderable and other WooCommerce ordering plugins are supported too.

Does ReceiptKit show live status for the Epson TM-m30?

Cover, paper, and offline status. Healthy printers answer DLE EOT; an offline Epson TM rejects its whole data channel, so the bridge falls back to SNMP over Ethernet, the blocked-channel signature over Pi USB, and Epson's Status API on Windows with the APD driver.

Can the Epson TM-m30 open a cash drawer through ReceiptKit?

Cash drawer kick via ESC p on the RJ11 port. Sends cleanly on tested hardware over USB and Ethernet; physical actuation not yet confirmed in our lab.

What paper width does the Epson TM-m30 use with ReceiptKit?

80 mm paper at 576 dots across. The bridge sets the width automatically from the model name, and you can override it per printer if a receipt comes out clipped.
