A StarIO.Online alternativefor the Star printers Star's cloud can't reach
StarIO.Online only talks to printers with CloudPRNT firmware, and only the newest of those get push printing. ReceiptKit prints from the cloud to every TSP100 and TSP143 futurePRNT model, every mC-Print3, and your Epson and ESC/POS printers too, in under a second, with no firmware upgrade.
Star's cloud needs Star's newest firmware
StarIO.Online is a good product for what it covers: the printer connects to Star's cloud by serial number, your app calls a REST API, and nothing runs locally. The limit is the word compatible. It reaches only printers with CloudPRNT firmware, and real-time push (CloudPRNT Next over MQTT) is narrower still: per Star's own SDK documentation, it needs an mC-Print3 on firmware 5.1 or later and only the MCP31CBI/CI models, a TSP100IV on firmware 2.2 or later, or an mC-Label.
That leaves out a lot of installed hardware. Every TSP100, TSP100II, TSP100III, and pre-IV TSP143 has no CloudPRNT at all. Older mC-Print3 units (MCP31L and MCP31LB, the ones most shops bought) are stuck on classic CloudPRNT, where the printer polls the cloud every few seconds. And anything that is not a Star printer is out entirely.

“polling” = classic CloudPRNT, where the printer asks the cloud for jobs on an interval. Impact printers (SP700, TM-U220) are supported by neither for raster receipts. Per-model setup guides: supported printers.
Push to a bridge, render locally, print natively
Instead of asking the printer to speak to the cloud, ReceiptKit puts a small free bridge on the printer's network. The cloud pushes a few hundred bytes of order data to it over MQTT; the bridge renders the receipt and writes native printer commands. The printer only needs to be a printer.

Every Star generation, not just the newest
Star's cloud needs CloudPRNT firmware. ReceiptKit's bridge speaks StarPRNT and Star Raster directly over Ethernet or USB, so a ten-year-old TSP143 prints from the cloud as well as a new TSP143IV.

If every printer you own is a current CloudPRNT Next model and you cannot place a PC, Mac, or Raspberry Pi anywhere on the printer's network, StarIO.Online's printer-to-cloud connection is the simpler deployment. ReceiptKit needs its bridge running near the printer. For everything else on this page, including any shop with a TSP143 or an older mC-Print3, the bridge is what makes cloud printing possible at all.

The printer connects to Star's cloud directly by serial number, so there is no local software to install. It offers a 90-day free trial; ongoing pricing is not published.
Which Star printers does StarIO.Online not support?
Any Star printer without CloudPRNT firmware. Star's CloudPRNT documentation lists mC-Print2, mC-Print3, mC-Label2, mC-Label3, TSP100IV, TSP100IV SK, TSP650II, TSP700II, TSP800II, TSP650IISK, and SP700. The TSP100, TSP100II, TSP100III, and every TSP143 futurePRNT variant before the IV are not on that list, so they cannot use StarIO.Online at all. ReceiptKit prints to all of them.
Does my mC-Print3 support CloudPRNT Next?
Only some units. Star's documentation states CloudPRNT Next (MQTT) requires mC-Print3 firmware 5.1 or later and is available on the MCP31CBI and MCP31CI models only. Earlier MCP31L and MCP31LB units are limited to classic CloudPRNT, which has the printer poll Star's cloud every few seconds. ReceiptKit pushes to every mC-Print3 generation over TCP or USB, no firmware upgrade needed.
How does ReceiptKit reach the printer without CloudPRNT?
A free bridge app runs on a Windows PC, Mac, or Raspberry Pi on the printer's network. ReceiptKit's cloud pushes a small JSON payload to the bridge over MQTT; the bridge renders your template and writes native StarPRNT or Star Raster commands to the printer over Ethernet or USB. Prints take under a second, including logos and barcodes.
Is a local bridge a disadvantage compared with StarIO.Online?
It is one more thing to install, and we say so plainly. In exchange you get support for every Star generation and for Epson and ESC/POS printers, live cover and paper status, local rendering so rich receipts stay fast, and no dependence on printer firmware. Most shops already have a PC or tablet near the printer; a Raspberry Pi works where they do not.
Can I design receipts visually?
Yes. ReceiptKit includes a visual template editor on every plan, including Free, with images, fonts, barcodes, QR codes, and conditional sections. StarIO.Online delivers whatever document your application generates and does not include a template designer.
